How to Train Your Aim: Free Trainers and a One-Week Plan
By Андрій КоваленкоPublished: 3 min read

In short: aim is trained in short daily sessions of 20–30 minutes: a warm-up, 2–3 types of exercise (tracking, fast flicks, precise clicks) and a game where you lock in the skills. Free trainers (built-in ranges in Valorant and CS2, Aim Lab) are enough to start. The key is steady sensitivity settings, regularity and breaks.
Before you train
- Lock in your settings. Do not change sensitivity during the training week, see DPI and sensitivity.
- Set up your station. Mouse, pad, posture, see monitor height and posture.
- Warm up your hands, see hand and wrist warm-up.
- Watch the wrist. Do not squeeze the mouse and do not push through pain.
Types of exercise
- Tracking. Keeping the crosshair on a moving target. Builds smoothness.
- Flicking. A fast move to a target that appears, then a stop. Builds precision and speed.
- Target switching. Quick switches between targets and precise clicks.
- Recoil control in shooters with recoil.
- Crosshair placement. Keeping the crosshair at head level as you move around the map.
Free tools
- Aim Lab: a free trainer with tracking, flicking and switching exercises.
- The Valorant range (The Range): bots and targets.
- CS2 maps and modes (workshop training maps, bot modes).
- Deathmatch on official servers: simple practice in real conditions.
A 7-day plan (20–30 minutes a day)
| Day | Warm-up | Main | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 min stretch and slow movements | tracking 10 min | deathmatch 10 min |
| 2 | 5 min | flicks 10 min | deathmatch 10 min |
| 3 | 5 min | target switching 10 min | deathmatch 10 min |
| 4 | 5 min | tracking 8 min, flicks 8 min | deathmatch 10 min |
| 5 | 5 min | recoil control 10 min | deathmatch 10 min |
| 6 | 5 min | weakest area from the week 15 min | play |
| 7 | light stretch | rest or a light session | assess progress |
How to measure progress
- Record results of the same exercise (score, accuracy, reaction time) every few days.
- Look at the trend over the week, not a single result.
- Compare yourself with yourself, not with others.
- Account for fatigue and sleep: results fluctuate.
Typical mistakes
- Sessions that are too long. Fatigue lowers movement quality; better short but daily.
- Constantly changing sensitivity. No time to build the skill.
- Training without breaks or with hand pain.
- Exercises only, no play. Lock the skills in matches.
- Unrealistic expectations. Progress can be uneven.
Equipment: will a new pad help
Equipment quality affects comfort and stability: a flat surface and steady glide help you feel your movements, see mouse pad for low sensitivity and mouse pad surfaces. But equipment does not replace training.
FAQ
How long should I train a day?
To start, 20–30 minutes; more is not always better.
Do I need a paid trainer?
Not to start.
How soon will there be progress?
It varies; a weekly cycle shows the trend.
Can I train with hand pain?
No, stop, see forearm pain from the mouse.
