eDPI in CS2: How to Calculate It and Where to Start

By Андрій КоваленкоPublished: 2 min read

In short: eDPI = DPI × in-game sensitivity. In CS2 many players use roughly 600 to 1200 eDPI (for example 800 DPI × 1.0), but the optimum is personal. To compare sensitivity across mice and games, calculate cm/360.

What is eDPI

eDPI (effective DPI) is the product of mouse DPI and in-game sensitivity:

eDPI = DPI × sensitivity

Example: DPI 800 with sensitivity 1.0 gives eDPI 800; DPI 400 with sensitivity 2.0 also gives 800. Physically that is the same turning speed, so eDPI is handy for comparing settings within one game.

How to calculate cm/360 in CS2

cm/360 = (360 × 2.54) ÷ (DPI × sensitivity × 0.022)

The 0.022 coefficient is the "yaw" for CS2/CS:GO.

DPI Sensitivity eDPI cm/360
800 1.0 800 ≈ 52 cm
800 1.5 1200 ≈ 35 cm
800 2.0 1600 ≈ 26 cm
400 2.0 800 ≈ 52 cm
1600 0.5 800 ≈ 52 cm

Pad size for such sensitivity: mouse pad for low sensitivity.

Where to start

  1. Set DPI to 800 and sensitivity around 1.0–1.5.
  2. Turn on raw input in the game settings and turn off mouse acceleration, see DPI and sensitivity.
  3. Check a 180° turn: it should take a comfortable distance (about 13–26 cm for 52–26 cm/360).
  4. Change sensitivity in small steps (about 10%), at least a week on each value.
  5. Do not copy pros' settings: they are tuned to their pad and grip.

Typical ranges

According to open data on players' settings, a significant share of CS2 professionals use an eDPI of roughly 600–1200, but the spread is wide. This is not a target value, only a guide.

Additional settings

  • Zoom sensitivity (sniper scope). The zoom coefficient changes turning speed in the scope.
  • Windows. Pointer speed 6/11, "Enhance pointer precision" off.
  • Polling rate. Usually 1000 Hz, see polling rate.

FAQ

Which is better, high or low sensitivity?

There is no universal answer: choose by comfort and pad size.

Can eDPI correspond equally to different cm/360?

No, within one game; across games the coefficients differ.

Do I need to change DPI?

Not necessarily: tuning in-game sensitivity is enough.

How do I check the calculation?

Use an online calculator and the formula in this article.
