How to Choose PC Glasses: What to Look At Besides Lens Colour
By Олег МельничукPublished: 2 min read

In short: for glasses you will wear for hours, what matters more than lens colour is frame fit and weight, optical quality of the lenses, coating, compatibility with headphones and care. Remember: there is no evidence of benefit from a blue filter, see what the research says. Glasses just need to be comfortable.
1. Frame and fit
- Size. The frame should not press on the temples and nose bridge and should not slide when you tilt your head.
- Weight. A lighter frame tires less in long wear.
- Nose pads. Soft, adjustable, leaving no marks.
- Arms. Thin, not interfering with headphones.
- Material. Flexible plastic or coated metal; check for nickel allergy.
2. Lenses: quality
- Optical clarity. No distortion or "waves" when looking through the lens.
- Uniform tint. No patches or difference between lenses.
- Material. Polycarbonate or polymers: light and strong.
- Fogging. Worn with a headset and in warmth, lenses can fog; it depends on fit and coating.
3. Coating
- Anti-reflective coating reduces reflections on the lenses and from the screen.
- Scratch resistance.
- Oleophobic coating makes cleaning easier.
- UV protection matters for sunglasses, but for indoor use it is not a criterion; see the manufacturer's claims.
4. Compatibility with headphones and headset
Bulky arms under ear cushions press on the temples. Test the glasses with your headphones before buying or look for thin arms.
5. Vision: when you need a prescription
A simple filter does not correct vision. If you wear glasses or see poorly, you need glasses with correction, see computer glasses with or without prescription.
6. Lens colour
Choose colour for comfort and tasks, see how yellow, clear and red lenses differ.
7. Case and care
- A case protects against scratches.
- A microfibre cloth for cleaning.
- Do not wipe dust off with a dry cloth; rinse or blow it off first.
- Do not use alcohol or harsh products without the manufacturer's permission.
8. Price and warranty
A higher price does not guarantee a "therapeutic" effect. Pay for the quality of the frame, lenses and warranty, not for promises of "eye protection".
How to check before buying
- Try them on with your headset.
- Look at text and straight lines through the lenses: no distortion.
- Walk around and turn your head: the glasses do not slip.
- Check how they feel after 15–20 minutes.
- Find out the return terms.
What not to expect
Glasses do not replace breaks, screen settings and an ophthalmologist's advice, see monitor brightness, dry eyes from screens.
